Chippenham has successfully achieved re-accreditation for Purple Flag status from the Associations of Town and City Management for the 10th year.
It's in recognition of Chippenham’s ongoing commitment to working collaboratively with partners to create a dynamic, safe, and vibrant evening and night-time economy. Purple Flag is an international accreditation that raises the standard and broadens the appeal of town and city centres between the hours of 5.00pm and 5.00am. This prestigious award recognises Chippenham’s strong offering of entertainment, dining, and cultural experiences, while ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and visitors.
Purple Flag assessors’ feedback highlighted several strengths within Chippenham’s award submission, including the strong partnership between the Town Council and the Neighbourhood Policing Team, which continues to deliver effective multi-agency working and positive outcomes for the town.
The judges also recognised Chippenham as an attractive destination that makes excellent use of its heritage assets.
There are fewer than 100 Purple Flag destinations worldwide, spanning the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Malta, New Zealand and Australia. These accredited locations range from internationally recognised tourist destinations to small market towns. For 16 years, Purple Flag has represented the gold standard in evening and night-time economy management.
