Annual canvass process continuing

Wiltshire Council and the Electoral Commission are continuing with their annual process of ensuring the county's electoral register is up-to-date.

You will receive at least one form of canvass communication (email, letter, or form) asking for confirmation of who lives at your address, to check who is eligible to register to vote.

The quickest and easiest way for you to confirm details on the Electoral Register, once you have received the instructions, is by using the secure online system and the security codes provided on your email or letter.

What the annual canvass is and how to respond

Each year the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) has a legal requirement to contact all households in the local authority to check that the data we hold on the electoral register is accurate.

Households will be contacted by email or post. Not all households are contacted at the same time during the canvass.

Following the annual canvass the Electoral register is re-published on 1 December 2023.

How to respond

Your email or form will contain instructions on how to respond.

  • if you need to tell us about a change you can do so online through the household response (opens new window) website  or by returning the form.
  • if all of the information is correct you can confirm the information by text, phone, online or by returning the form.

It is quicker and easier to respond online on the household response (opens new window) website. This is a secure online site. You will need the security codes and your postcode provided on your email or form to submit a response.

What happens next

Once you have replied to the canvass communication the changes will be made on the Electoral Register.
